The petition of Thomas Gould of Ashburton, Devon, Easter 1682

To the honor[a]ble Edward Seymour Esq[uire] and others, his Ma[jes]ties Justices of Peace att the Generall Sessions for the County of Devon.
The humble Peticion of Thomas Gould of Ashburton in the said County Showeth.
That yo[u]r Petic[i]onor was a souldier in the late warrs, and served his ma[jes]tie Kinge Charles the first of ever blessed and glorious memory in the office on an Ensigne under Capt[ain] Andrew Woodley in the Regiment of Colonell Seymour (since S[i]r Edward Seymour Barr[one]t) by the space of two yeares or there abouts, And afterwards served his said ma[jes]tie in the office of Lieutenant under Capt[ain] Richard Cabell Esq[uire] in the Regiment of S[i]r Henry Cary, and never deserted his ma[jes]ties service in the said warr: But did receave severall wounds in his right hand and side in a fight near Taunton, by reason whereof hee is disabled to get his living.
Wherefore yo[u]r poore Peticonor doeth humbly desire some Releife or Pension may bee assigned him for his mainteynance, and hee shall as in duty bound for ever pray &c.
