The petition of Thomas Goldthorpe of Over Flockton, West Riding of Yorkshire, October 1685

To the Right worshippfull Bench of his Mai[es]tes Justices of the peace and Quorum
The Humble petition of Thomas Goldthorpe of Over Flockton as followeth
Whereas the said Thomas Goldthorpe a poore man of the said towne of Flockton did formerly liue with S[i]r William Savile Knight and Barronet, att Thornhill hall vntill he was taken by a commission of aray and carried to yorke and from thence back to tadcaster and soe back to leedes until the [blank] was rooted then he came to our towne of Flockton and married a wife and hath had six or seaven Children whereby his wife waxed dim of Sight yt she could not helpe her selfe neither to put of her clothes nor on and besides all this he had one child yt was borne blind which liued vntill he did accomplish the age of Twenty years wherein the said Thomas is disabled in ioynts by reason of lying out of dores soe yt he is not able neither to worke nor travell soe yt he is impoverished soe sore yt he is likly to starve vnlesse your worshipfull bench will take his deplorable condition into your consideration and grant that he may haue some reliefe vpon the p[ar]ish of Thornhill and yo[u]r poore petitioner will at all times be redy to pray for youre worships healths and happyness
the contents of these we beleeue to be true
Ordered 4 s. a month vntill cause be showne & the Overseers to put out his boy an Apprentice W. S[impson].
