The petition of Thomas Farr of Basford, Cheshire, Michaelmas 1651

To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll & ho[noura]ble Bench of Justices for this County of Chester &c
The humble petic[i]on of Thomas Farr of Basford in this County
Sheweth that whereas yo[u]r petic[i]o[ne]r was servant to John Stanyer of Basford aforesaid, and was by him hired to goe a souldier vnder Maior Malbone in the Rigiment of the Right Wor[shipfu]ll Colonell Croxton to the late warr & expedition at Worcester; w[hi]ch said John Stanyer p[ro]mised yo[u]r petic[i]o[ne]r that hee should not lacke for anything, and that hee would pay yo[u]r petic[i]o[ne]r as much as money [sic.] for his service as any other man had that went forth of the same Towne for the said service of the Common wealth: And Rob[er]t Leverseach gaue vnto a man hired by him 3 li. 6 s. 8 d. & now the said Stanyer vtterly refuses to paie yo[u]r honours petic[i]o[ne]r any thing at all
The premises tenderly Considered yo[u]r petic[i]o[ne]r doth most humbly beseech this honorable Bench that hee may haue the order of this Court to cause the said John Stanyer to pay the sume of 3 li. 6 s. 8 d. to yo[u]r petic[i]o[ne]r who hath beene weake & sicklie ever since hee came home & is so still & vnable to doe service as hee was formerly & hath not any meane for his subsistance and livelihood his parents being poore & not able to mayntayne yo[u]r petic[i]o[ne]r, who will as hee is in duty bound doeth pray for yo[u]r honours health & happines long to continue &c
