The petition of Thomas Dutton of Aston juxta Mondrum, Cheshire, Michaelmas 1662

To the Ho[noura]ble the Justic[e]s of the Peace in the County Palatine of Chester.

The humble Petition of Thomas Dutton of Aston Mondrum

<Humbly sheweth>

That yo[u]r poore Petition[e]r in the beginninge of the Late warrs was inlisted as a private souldier in the Troope of S[i]r Thomas Aston then Colonel in the service of his Ma[jes]ties father that now is of Euer blessed and glorious memory and not longe after in a Skirmish against S[i]r William Brereton neare Namptw[i]ch yo[u]r poore Pet[itioner] was shott into the thigh by reason whereof and want of timely lookinge to by Chirurgeons hee fell into a sad and languishinge Condic[i]on in w[hi]ch hee Continued by the space of two yeares at or about w[hi]ch time hee was fetched Prison[e]r in to Napmptw[i]ch, and afterwardes had his house Plundered of all his goodes and his dwelling house and out housinge burnt by the Rebb[e]llious Party downe to the ground to the utter ruine and impouerishm[en]t of yo[u]r poore Pet[itione]r, and now yo[u]r poore Pet[itioner] beinge antient and haueinge a wife and five children to mentaine by his owne Labour and Industry, w[hi]ch by reason of his former woundes hee is almost disinabled to follow soe as to rayse a competent liuelihood and being Informed that his Royall Ma[jes]tie that hath by his Act of Parliam[en]t granted some releife to such sould[i]ers that haue binne faithfull in the service of his Royall father and neuer deserted their loyalty

The premisses Considered

Yo[u]r Pet[itioner] humbly prayes that yo[u]r hono[u]rs will be pleased accordinge to his Loyalty and sufferingees to allow such yearely penc[i]on towardes the livelihood and releife of yo[u]r poore Petic[i]on[e]r and his Indigent family as yo[u]r hono[u]r shall think fitt

And as obliged hee will euer pray for yo[u]r hono[u]rs happinesse.
