The petition of Thomas Collishaw of Bilborough, Nottinghamshire, 13 April 1648

To the ho[noura]ble Committee of Parliam[en]t for the Countie of Nottingha[m]

the humble petic[i[on of Thomas Collishaw of Bilborrow in the said Countye:

Humbly sheweth that yo[u]r petic[i]oner was one of the first that came into this garrison to doe service, and Contynued the space of three yeares, vnder the ho[noura]ble Collonel Thornehaughs Com[m]aund within which tyme, in the same service was taken prisoner to Newarke and there through malice was kept Close prisoner for the space of thirtye six weekes in w[hi]ch tyme hee got such a Could & numnes in his Joynts soe that, insomuch that itt hath Caused him to spend all his estate to recover his health againe, having beene long in the doctors hands and having now nothing att all left to pay for such necessaries ase are Fit for his Recoverye, & haveing a wife & A familye to mayetayne, is now Constrayned to appeale to this ho[noura]ble Committee for Releife:

May itt therefore please the ho[noura]ble Committee to take this my greate necessitie into yo[u]r grave debates, and withall bee pleased to looke vppo[n] the former losses, w[hi]ch hath beene very greate. And w[i]thall to see that there may be a Competent allowance for the said losses by yo[u]r said petic[i]oner soe sustayned as will appeare vnd[e]r It[em] one horse bought of Christmas day 1642 w[hi]ch cost yo[u]r petic[i]oner foure pounds and tenn shillings vppon w[hi]ch said horse hee ridd vppon all Christmas till hee fell lame in Maior Whites troupe, the horse w[hi]ch yo[u]r petic[i]oner was taken off did after gainsborrow fight att Lincolne Cost yo[u]r forenamed petic[i]oner the some of 9 li. 4 s. 0 d. more, hee had gonne, when the towne was taken Cost 3 li. 9 s. 4 d. all w[hi]ch said losses yo[u]r petic[i]oner humbly intreateth that yo[u]r hono[u]rs would take into debate & seriously Consider off his Condic[i]on & in soe doeing you will ever engage yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner his wife & poore Child ever to pray:

For yo[u]r hon[ou]rs Eternall Blisse

Ever to Remayne & Contynue till death:

<Mr Hough, Pay forty shillings to the Pet[itione]r in p[ar]te of his pay and this shall be yo[u]r warr[an]t. Dated the day & yeare aboves[ai]d.>
