The petition of Thomas Carpenter of Westbury, Wiltshire, Hilary 1661

To the Right Worsh[i]pp[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ti[e]s Justisses of the Peace for the County of Wilts[hire] siting at New Sarum
The Humble petecion of Thomas Carpenter of the p[ar]ish of Westbury in the County aforesayd weaver
<Humbly> Sheweth that y[ou]r peticion[e]r was impressed to serve his late ma[jes]tie King Charles the first of Glorious memory in the late warrs By John Taunton then one of the Constables of ye hundred afores[ai]d and that hee did very faythfully serue his s[ai]d Ma[jes]tie as a soldier for A long tyme & neuer was on the other side in w[hi]ch sirviss y[ou]r peticio[ne]r Receaued many Griueous wounds & hurts on his Body so that hee is thare by very much disabled to worke at his trade to gott [sic.] maynetenance for himselfe his wife & Children by Reason where of your s[ai]d petticio[ne]r w[i]th his family are like to great want & Nessessity as by a true Certificate vnder the hands of diu[er]s Credable p[er]sons to y[ou]r Worsh[i]pps directed A [sic.] Appeereth
Y[ou]r petticion[e]r tharefore humbly prayeth y[ou]r worsh[i]pps to take his sade Condic[i]on vnto y[ou]r serious Consid[er]ac[i]ons And to Alow him somthing out of his ma[jes]ties Tresury for mayned [sic.] soldiers by way of Pension or other ways to helpe towards the mayntenance of himselfe his poore wife & Children for w[hi]ch great favour y[ou]r poore petticion[e]r his wife & Children as theyr bounden Duty is shall bee euer bound to pray
