The petition of the orphans of Henry Holl, Derbyshire, 29 February 1648

To the Hono[u]rable Committee for the County of Derby,
The humble Peticion of Foure small fatherless & motherless Children,
Humbly Sheweth
Vnto yo[u]r Good Worships, that yo[u]r Peticioners father Henry Holl deceased, was a Souldier in this Regiment of Derby, & in the Col[one]ls owne foot Company, by the full space & tearme of Foure years, & for his said seruice, is great Sumes of money in Arreare, And being w[i]th the rest of his said Company, comanded upon seruice against Belvore Castle, was by the Enemy vnfortunately slaine; And since the said tyme of his death, yo[u]r Peticioners mother obtained an exprest order from the Comittee, for the paym[en]t of the like [illegible] moneys, vnto her, as was payed vnto any of his said Company (by order from the Comittee) And before that the said Comittee was pleased, to order any thinge for the Souldiers, yo[u]r Peticioners mother died alsoe, w[hi]ch was about a twelue month agoe, soe that for want of friends to labour in yo[u]r Peticioners behalfes, concerning this bursnes, yo[u]r said Peticioners, have lost the meanes w[hi]ch the rest of the foot Companyes receiued, to their great loss & hinderance,
Yo[u]r Peticioners humble requests is therefore, that yow would be pleased for take [sic.] their distressed cause, into yo[u]r Graue & mature considerac[i]ons, & to order (in regard of their present Condicion) that they may haue such allowance, as yow in yo[u]r wisdoms shall thinke fit, & yo[u]r Peticion[e]rs shall dayly pray for yo[u]r Worships
p[er]petuall preservation.

It is ordered that Mr Henry Buxton Tre[asure]r pay vnto the Petic[i]o[ne]rs for theire reliefe the sum[m]e of Twenty shillings
