The petition of the maimed soldiers of Goostrey-cum-Barnshaw and Twemlow, Cheshire, Michaelmas 1651

To the Wor[shi]pp[fu]ll the Justices of ye peace of this County at this present Sessions at Northwich
The humble petic[i]on of the seuerall souldiers whose names are subscribed
Humbly sheweinge
That they haue beene souldiers in the Parliam[en]t seruice almost ever since the beginninge of the late Warrs and for theire fidellity and vallo[u]r dare referr them selves vnto any officers that knew vs to approoue of, And in regard your petic[i]on[er]s had beene souldiers before, they weare putt vpon to goe vpon this late expedic[i]on agay[n]st the Scotts. And your petic[i]on[er]s beinge poore men and havinge little or noe meanes to menteyne them, demanded some money from Goostree cu[m] Barnshaw and Twemlow (beinge the Townes that they served for) for their aforesayd service. But the sayd Townes deny to pay your petic[i]on[er]s any, although they well know that almost noe poore men that was a souldier that went vpon the sayd service but hee had reasonable satisfac[i]on given them for their paynes
Yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s therfore humbly pray that your worshipps will bee pleased to send your order to the aforesayd Townes to pay euery of your petic[i]on[er]s soe much money as yow conceaue they deserved for goeinge vpon the sayd service And yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]rs will euer pray &c
