The petition of Susanna Grafton of Brackley, Northamptonshire, October 1666
The Humble petition of Susanna Grafton, widdow; Late wife of John Grafton of Brackley in ye County of North[amp]ton[shire] Deceased
Humbly sheweth yt whereas yo[u]r Hono[ur]s were pleased by yo[u]r order at ye Generall Sessions of ye peace holden at ye Castle of North[amp]ton on Tuesday next after ye feast of Epiphany in ye foureteenth yeare of his Mai[e]sties now raigne to order & grant vnto ye said John Grafton an yearly pension of six pounds to be payd quarterlie for his faithfull service to his Late Maiestie in ye warrs as by ye said order & ye Certificate for his faithfull service therein may & doth appeare; And whereas ye said John Grafton died in debt & left yo[u]r petitioner indigent & a Charge of Children to Mainetaine, being altogether vnprovided for; & not having sufficient after ye paym[en]t of ye said Debts to Maintaine her & her Children.
Yo[u]r petitioner therefore doth humbly beeseech yo[u]r Hono[u]rs to take the premises into yo[u]r serious Consideration & to Continue ye said Pension; or what pension you in yo[u]r Wisdome shall thinke Fitt.
And yo[u]r poor petitioner shall Euer pray:
We whose names are vnderwritten doe Certify yt ye said Susanna Grafton is by her Late husband left in debt & indigent. & hath not sufficient (after ye payment of her debts) to Mainetaine her selfe & Children:
