The petition of Susanna Gouge, City of London, 24 September 1672

To the right hono[ura]ble S[i]r George Waterman Knight Lord Maior of the City of London
The humble petic[i]on of Susanna Gouge Widdow.
Humbly Sheweth That yo[u]r petic[i]oners Late husband Richard Gouge was a pentioner by vertue of an Act of Parliament Intitled an Act for the releife of poore and maimed Officers and souldiers who have faithfully served his Ma[jes]tie and his royall Father in his late warrs And duly received by the favour of yo[u]r Lo[rdshi]pp and the right wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the Peace of the Citty of London the sum[m]e of Fifty shillings p[er] Ann[um] by quarterly payments during his life But now soe it is may it please yo[u]r Lo[rdshi]pp that yo[u]r petic[i]oners said husband being dead hath left her in a very poore and distressed Condic[i]on And being aged Threescore and Two yeares shee is not able to labour for her living as very gladly and willingly shee would doe if her age and strength would permitt but must vndoubtedly perish vnlesse shee be releived.
Her humble petic[i]on therefore is That yo[u]r Lo[rdshi]pp would be pleased to take the premisses into yo[u]r favourable Considerac[i]on And in yo[u]r Lo[rdshi]pps wonted Clemency and Charity in such cases to Order that yo[u]r petic[i]oner may be admitted a pentioner in the roome of her said deceased husband and to receive the pention her said husband in his life time received.
And yo[u]r petic[i]oner shall daily pray &c.
If the Petic[i]oners husbands place bee not already disposed of I will that shee have the said place
