The petition of Simon Morey of Ashburton, Devon, 1684

To the Right Worshipp[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace now assembled att the Generall Quarter Sessions of the peace of our Sov[er]aigne Lord the Kinge held in and for the County aforesaid.
The humble petition of Symon Morey of Ashberton in the County of Devon Barber.
Humbly sheweth unto yo[u]r worshipps
That yo[u]r poore petition[e]r faithfully served his late Ma[jes]tie Kinge Charles the first of ever blessed memory in the quality of Quartermaster of Col[one]l William Helyars Troope of horse under the Com[m]and of the hono[ra]ble S[i]r Richard Grenvile kn[igh]t for the most p[ar]te of the late unhappy warrs in w[hi]ch service yo[u]r petition[e]r received diverse greate wounds, And in the siege against the Towne of Plymouth was taken prisoner and soe carried into the said Towne where he remained longe in greate misery & suffered much hardshipp by meanes whereof and of his said wounds (yo[u]r petition[e]r being now about Seaventy yeares of Age) is become very decrepid, maymed and altogeather unable to use his said trade or doe any other Labour to get his livelihood, In tender considerac[i]on whereof may it please yo[u]r worshipps to order yo[u]r petition[e]r such a yearly pention out of the Rates paid to maymed souldiers as to yo[u]r worshipps shall seeme meet. And yo[u]r petition[e]r as in duty bound shall ever pray &c
