The petition of several widows and maimed soldiers of the artillery train, 10 December 1645

<pet[ition] of the widdows & Traine of Artillery>
To the right Hon[oura]ble the Knights Cittizens & Burgeses of the Com[m]ons howse of Parliam[en]t
The Humble petic[i]on of Manye poore widdowes & others of the Trayne of Artillery.
Sheweth
That yo[u]r poore petico[ne]rs haueing beene longe in Expectation to Receiue the Arrears due vnto them for the service of theire Husbands whoe haue beene slaine in the service of ye Parliam[en]t belonging to the Trayne of Artilery vnder his Excellencye ye Earle of Essex, whose necessitye beeinge soe Extreame that w[i]thout some pr[e]sent helpe are likely to perish haueinge often had hopes to Receiue some smale p[ar]t of theire said Arrears (as others haue donn) butt yett could neuer obtaine one penny thereof to keepe themselues & theire Children from a starvinge Condition. This Hon[oura]ble howse haueinge appoynted a Com[m]ittie to take care of yo[u]r pettic[i]o[ne]rs (whereof Mr Noble is in the Chaire) and alsoe theire accompts to bee cast vpp by the accomptants of the Kingdome, & are not retourned to this Hon[oura]ble howse, whereby some course may bee taken for theire releife,
Theire Humble desire therefore is, That this Hon[oura]ble howse wil bee pleased to Order that yo[u]r petic[i]o[ne]rs accompts (beinge p[er]fected by the said accomptants) may bee retourned to the said Com[m]ittie & that a speedye Course maye bee setled for theire paym[en]t & yo[u]r petic[i]o[ne]rs thereby kept from p[er]rishinge.
And they shall as in Dutye bound pray &c:

Ordered that the p[er]sons menc[i]oned in ye list of the trayne of Artillery be referred to the Com[m]itee of Accompts of the Kingdome to examine their demands & Certify the same to this Com[m]ittee w[i]th speed.
