The petition of several maimed soldiers under the command of Sir William Waller, October 1646

To the Hono[ura]ble the Com[m]ons Assembled in Parlam[en]t

The humble Petic[i]on of Divers Officers late vnder the Com[m]and of the Hono[ura]ble S[i]r Willia[m] Waller K[nigh]t Serieant Maior Generall

<Sheweth>

That yo[u]r Petic[i]on[er]s for the most p[ar]t haue binne in the service ever since the begininge of theese Civell Warrs first vnd[e]r the com[m]and of the Lord Generalls Excellence & since till the tyme of reducem[en]t vnd[e]r the Hono[ura]ble S[i]r Will[ia]m Waller, som of yo[u]r Petic[i]on[er]s haueinge lost their Estates Callings & trades by their service heere, & wasted not only their stocks but spent all they could borrowe in the imploym[en]t Suffred longe imprisonm[en]t w[i]th the enemye besydes divers wounds w[i]th the losse Horse Armes Furnitures & Sumptures amountinge to more then the fifte p[ar]t of their Arreares will recruite, som of vs before the reducm[en]t contentinge o[u]rselues to ride in S[i]r Will[ia]m Wallers Lifguard rather then to relinquish the Cause, And All of vs beinge verye desyrous to goe forth againe into the service

Doe humblye praye that this Hono[ura]ble House wil be pleased to take into Considerac[i]on this o[u]r sad condic[i]on to grant vs such p[ar]t of o[u]r Arreares as they shall thinke fitt to refurnish vs forth fit for service, & to grant an ord[e]r that o[u]r Accompts may be Cast vp from the begininge of o[u]r service to the tyme of Reducem[en]t into one Debentur

And yo[u]r Petic[i]on[er]s shall ever praye &c
