The petition of Sarah Corne of Little Madeley, Staffordshire, September 1651

To the wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of Peace for the County of Staff[ord]

The humble Petition of Sarah Corne of Little Madeley widdowe late wife vnto Humphrey Corne deceased.

Humbly sheweth

That whereas yo[u]r poore Petitioners father in lawe Richard Corne beinge a listed souldier vnder the Comaund of Capt[ain] Francis Cocknage & a comaund was, that the said Capt[ain] should send a partie out to p[er]sue the Scotts; the said Richard Corne beinge Auntient p[ro]cured his sonne to goe in his roome & stead, in soe much that your said Petitioners husband was slayne at Tabley in Cheshire, being now very great w[i]th child & at downe lying, haveing noe releife or mayntenance to subsist withall.

Humbly prayeth your good worshipps to be pleased to comiserate her sad condic[i]on and be pleased to Order or sett forth some releife for her subsistance for the future, as yo[u]r good worshipps shall thinke fitt.

And yo[u]r goodnes shewed to yo[u]r poore petitioner herein she shall as in dutie bownd ever pray for yo[u]r worshipps.
