The petition of Samuell Constantine of Kettlewell, West Riding of Yorkshire, 13 July 1675

To the Right worshippfull his Ma[jes]t[ie]s Justices; Justices of the Peace at the Generall Quarter Sessions of the Peace holden at Skipton.

The Humble Peticon of Samuell Constantine of Kettlewell gentl[eman]:

Sheweth

That yo[u]r Peticoner was a souldjer in the service of our late Sov[er]aigne Lord Kinge Charles the first of euer blessed memorie, being first listed by Captaine Lieuten[an]te Cuthbert Wade Esq[ui]r[e] in his Troope of Dragoones vnder the Command of Colonell S[i]r John Malleyrie, And afterwards was in seruice vnder Colonell Malham; And after that was a Souldjer vnder the Com[m]and of George late Duke of Albamarle alwaies continuinge faithfull and neuer diserted his Ma[jes]t[y]s seruice but was Instrumentall in the bringinge of o[u]r most gratious Sou[e]raigne Lord Kinge Charles the second, As by a discharge from the said Dukes Officers giuen to yo[u]r Peticoner may more fullie appeare; In w[hi]ch said seruice yo[u]r Petic[i]oner hath beene a great and sadd sufferer, haueinge not onelie laid out and spent his whole estate (w[hi]ch was well knowne to be verie considerable,) but also hath rec[eive]d soe manie seuerall wounds; That yo[u]r poore Petic[i]oner is altogether soe disabled, as that he cannot take anie paines or Imploym[en]te whereby he may or canne releeue himselfe; Soe that yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r (at pr[e]sent) is in a verie sadd and poore condic[i]on.

Yo[u]r Peticoner therefore humblie prayes yo[u]r good worshipps to take this his deplorable condic[i]on into yo[u]r most serious and wise considerac[i]ons; And whereas George Ibbotson late of Kettlewell afforesaid deceased was a Penconer and rec[eive]d pay as a lame souldjer. That yo[u]r good worshipps will be pleased to grant yo[u]r Order to the Treasurer for the lame souldjers to enter his name in the Penc[i]on Roll. That yo[u]r peticoner may for the future receaue the said Penc[i]on accordinge as formerlie paid to the said George Ibbotson. For and towards his releefe.

And yo[u]r Petic[i]oner as in dutie bound shall eu[e]r pray &c.
