The petition of Sampson Gruffyth of Trevechan, Denbighshire, 4 April 1665

To the Right wor[shi]ppffull The Justices of the peace for the Countie of Denbigh, now sittinge att Denbigh
The Humble petic[i]on of Sampson Gruffyth of Llanynys, yeoman
Humbly sheweth
Vnto yo[u]r wors[hi]pps That hee hath beene A souldier in seu[er]all places att service in the late wars, was prest by the high Constable then in the sayd p[ar]ish of Llanynys & was sent with others by Maior Hughes To Oxenfford Into the queenes liffeguard in the Company of maior Thomas & Captayne Gerard, where hee served Three yeares & Above, wherin he suffered And Receaved wounds and Lost his health thereby And [illegible] never was otherwayes A souldier but onely In his late ma[jes]ties service King Charles the First. And therefore Humbly praeth That y[ou]r wor[shi]pps may please to graunt Him to be A penc[i]oner as others are, And hee will Ever pray.
Wee whose names are herevnto subscribed doe ce[r]tifie vnto y[o]ur wor[shi]pps that the Contents of the poor mans pettic[i]on are true And hee A fitt obiect to Receave pencion, hopeing y[ou]r wor[shi]pps Graunt herein, vnto yo[u]r Frinds & servants witnesse o[u]r Hands
