The petition of Roger Griffith late of Ruthin, Denbighshire, 14 July 1663

To ye Right wor[shipfu]ll the kings Justices of ye peace of the County of Denbigh.
The humble petic[i]on of Roger Gruffith lat of [blank]
Humbly Sheweth that y[ou]r poore petic[i]on[er] hath truely & faithfully served his late Ma[jes]tie in {the} late vnhappy warres vnder ye Comaund of Colonel {Will}iam {Wynne} till his s[ai]d Coll[onel] was slayne at wem & afterwards for 2 yeares vnder the Comaund of Major Hugh Wyne, In w[hi]ch s[ai]d warres rec[eive]d seu[er]all wounds & bruises & alsoe suffered great losses by souldiers plundering him of all he had, & yt yo[u]r s[ai]d peitic[ione]r before his s[ai]d wounds bruises & greate losses, lived in good credit & reputac[i]on & maintayned himselfe & family in comely decent fashion
But now soe it is, may it please y[ou]r wor[shi]ps; yt y[ou]r petic[ione]r being greately impou[er]ished by reason of his losses & being ou[er]taken w[i]th age & dimnes of sight as alsoe his body greately weakened by reason of his s[ai]d wounds & bruises, in soe much that y[ou]r poore petic[ione]r is altogether vnable to labo[u]r as form[er]ly he hath don for ye maintenance of himselfe wife & children
In consideracon of ye pr[e]misses yo[u]r petic[ione]r humbly desireth that through yo[u]r wor[shi]ps <meanes & furtherance he may have & receave an yearlie pencon, such as the law hath p[ro]mised for a maymed souldier And yo[u]r poore petic[ione]r will daily pray &c for yo[u]r wor[shi]ps long to continue in much happinesse.>
