The petition of Roger Greene of Adlington, Cheshire, Epiphany 1661

To the right wor[shi]p[fi]ll his Ma[jes]t[y]s Justices of peace of the Countie Palatine of Chester
The humble petic[i]on of Roger Greene of Adlington in the Countie afores[ai]d Carpenter.
Humbly Sheweth
That whereas the Inhabitants of Adlington aforesaid were Commanded to finde a certaine number of foote souldiers vnder the Command of Colonell Thomas Legh in the late ingagm[en]t of the Right wors[hi]pf[u]ll S[i]r George Booth of Dunham by reason whereof yo[u]r said petic[i]oner in considerac[i]on of the Sume of 3 li. of lawfull money of England p[ro]mised him by Thomas Turner & John Ridgway then Constables of the said Towns[hi]p to bee paid vnto him vpon demand or to another for his vse did therevpon inlist himselfe in the said service for the said Towns[hi]p & did remaine therin vntill the designe was over when yo[u]r petic[i]oner demanded the said Moneys soe p[ro]mised to him by the said Constables w[hi]ch the[y] have denyed to satisfye & still deny against all right Equitie & good conscience to the great losse & hinderance of yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner
Prayeth therefore that yo[u]r wors[hi]ps will be pleased to graunt yo[u]r petic[i]oner reliefe herein and cause the said Constables either to p[er]formed their assumpsit or otherwise to showe good caue to the contrary
And as in bounded dutie hee will ever pray &c.
