The petition of Robert Watt of Over Pool, Cheshire, Easter 1679

To the R[igh]t Hon[oura]ble his Ma[jes]t[y]s Justices of the peace and quorum at the Q[uarte]r Sessions holden at Chester the [blank]
The humble petition of Robert Watt of Poole in the Countie of Chester.
<Sheweth>
That yo[u]r pet[itione]r in the late warrs did both actually and faithfully serve the kings Ma[jes]tie of late blessed memory as a souldyer vnder the com[m]and of Prince Rupert, and in his owne Regim[en]t at seu[er]all places, vizt at Liu[er]poole, Boulton, York, Mongomery, and lastly at Naisbie, where he was taken prisioner and dangerously wounded in seu[er]all parts of his body especially in his right Arme as is very apparent that by means thereof, soe great a weaknes is lately come into the same that he is thereby together w[i]th his old age vtterly disabled to worke, and follow his vocation of a dayly laborer as formerly to his vtter ruine and impoverishm[en]t being a younger brother and destitute of all means of a livelyhood whatsoever.
That yo[u]r poor pet[itione]r did alwayes continue his loyaltie to his Ma[jes]tie and did never adhere to the enemies of his Loyall Soveraigne.
He therefore humbly imploreth yo[u]r hon[ou]rs to take the pr[e]misses into yo[u]r grace and tender considerac[i]ons and be charitably pleased to admitt yo[u]r poor pet[itione]r one of his Ma[jes]t[y]s pentioners otherwise he will be exposed to great extremitie and want.
And yo[u]r pet[itione]r shall pray &c
We whose names are subscribed doe certifie the contents of this petition to be truth, and doe recom[m]end him to yo[u]r hon[ou]rs as a meet and fitt object of yo[u]r charitie to be admitted one of his Ma[jes]t[y]s pentioners.
