The petition of Robert Tapley of Brixham, Devon, Michaelmas 1676

To the Right wor[shipfu]ll S[i]r Thomas Carew kn[igh]t and others his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace in and for this County of Devon.
The humble Petic[i]on of Robert Taply of the p[ar]ishe of Brixham in the County aforsaid.
<Humbly Sheweth>
That whereas yo[u]r poore Petition[e]r Robert Taply hath been all his tyme a Loyall Subiect, both to his now Ma[jes]tie, and alsoe to his father Kinge Charles the first, and was a souldier in his service for three years togeather, And in which said service received severall wounds, And alsoe hath been in his now ma[jes]ties service for seven years [yea] togeathers, Butt beinge now growne Aged (about seventy five years old) and by reason of the severall wounds w[hi]ch he Received in the said service is become a very decriped man And soe altogeather unable to provide for himselfe or to subsist, without yo[u]r wor[shi]pps will be pleased to take it into yo[u]r serious considerac[i]on, And order that yo[u]r poore petic[i]onor may have a pention given him towards his reliefe, And yo[u]r petitionor shall ever pray &c.
<And itt is humbly prayed that yo[u]r poore petitionor may have one q[ua]rter in hand considering his weaknesse & ye present necessaty he is in.>
