The petition of Robert Syms, Garrison of Gloucester, 16 March 1644
To the Hon[oura]ble Edward Massie Governor of the Citty of Glouc[ester] the humble Petition of Robert Syms now Prisoner in Bristoll;
Sheweth
That yo[u]r Petitioner being a leiutenant of Captaine Moores band, and now lying in prison, hath no maintenance to support him in his present distresse, but is like to perish if meanes be not vsed for his supply there.
May is therefore please yo[u]r Honor, commiserating his poore case, so to take it into consideration, that he may {illegible}me of his quality be Released by Exchange; and in the meane time to take some course, whereby I hee may have some maintenance for his present necessityes: And yo[u]r Petitioner shal be further oblidged to yo[u]r service, and be bound to pray &c.
