To the Right Worshipfull S[i]r Thomas Carew K[nigh]t and to the rest of the Worshipfull Justices of the Peace of this County.
The humble Petic[i]on of Robert Spray of Lustleigh in this County Husbandman.
Humbly Sheweth
That whereas yo[u]r poore Petic[i]on[e]r was A Souldier in the late Kings Service and did continue in the said Service to the end of the said Warrs vnder the Command of Bartholomew Gidley Esq[ui]r[e] Captain vnd[e]r the Command of S[i]r Nicholas Slanninge K[nigh]t Collonell of the Tinners and yo[u]r poore peticon[e]r with many longe Marches heates and Colds and lyinge in the feilds and in many battles and at the takeing of Stampford Worke against Plimouth tooke great hurt soe that yo[u]r Petic[i]oner now growen old poore and decrepped goeing by Crutches and not able to help himselfe humbly desires yo[u]r Worshipps to give him an yearly penc[i]on out of the County Stocke for his releife And yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner Shall ever pray &c.
Wee whose names are here subsribed [sic.] doe certifie the contents of this Petic[i]on to be true
