The petition of Robert Jenman, Sussex, January 1654

To the Right Worshipfull the Justices of the peace for the westerne parte of the Countie of Susex
The humble petic[i]on of Robert Jenman
Sheweth
That yo[u]r pet[itione]r hath served as a foote souldier in the service of this Com[m]onwealth of England in Ireland vnder the Comand of Captaine Samuel Grimes from the 12th day of Aprill 1651 vntill the Seaventh day of September last past & by reason of lamenes & sicknes being vnfitt & vnable to serve any longer in the same service obtained of his said Captaine to bee disbanded & obtained a passe into England accordingly
That yo[u]r pet[itione]r hath a wiffe & Fower children Twoe whereof bee smale and not able to gett their living & yo[u]r pet[itione]r is altogeather vnable to worke & cannot maintaine himselfe and his familie by reason of his lamenes & sicknes
May it please yo[u]r Wo[rshi]pps the pr[e]misses considered to allowe vnto yo[u]r pet[itione]r some reasonable penc[i]on for the mainetenance of yo[u]r pet[itione]r & his family dureing the tyme of his lamenes & sicknesse according to y[ou]r bountifull goodnesse vnto others in the like cases extended and yo[u]r peti[ci]on[e]r shall dayly pray &c.
xl s. p[er] annu[m] p[ai]d ann[ually] allowed the first paym[en]t to begin at this Sessions.
