The petition of Richard Wood of Walton-On-Thames, Surrey, May 1660

To the kings most excellent Ma[jes]tie.

The humble petic[i]on of Rich[ard] Wood of Walton vpon Thames in Surry.

Sheweth

That yo[u]r pet[itione]r hath bene Cormorant keeper to yo[u]r Ma[jes]ties Father & grand Father from the first yeare of his cominge into England till the late warrs where yo[u]r pet[itione]r alsoe served his Ma[jes]tie as a soldyer 4 years vnder Capt[ain] Hugh Grove in Col[one]l Welshe his Regim[en]t till by reason of Age (being nowe 95 yeares old) he was forced to betake himselfe to a poore dwellinge att Walton where he now continues much a sufferer both in body & estate by reason of ye s[ai]d Warre.

Wherefore he humbly prayes yo[u]r Ma[jes]tie wil be gratiously pleased to restore him to his former ymploym[en]t or else allowe him something in liue thereof And he (as in duty bound shall eu[er] (as formerly) pray for yo[u]r Ma[jes]ties Long & happy raygne &c.
