The petition of Richard Whittle of Cuerden, Lancashire, Easter 1657

The humble petic[i]on of Richard Whittle of Cuerden.
<Sheweth>
That wheras yo[u]r petic[i]oner by order of the sessions holden att Wigan the 16th of January 1653 was to haue A Convenient place of habitac[i]on provided within Cuerden, for himselfe and his wife, And the Churchwardens and Overseers for the poore did in obedience to the said Order consent therevnto, and yo[u]r petic[i]oner hath ever since resided there and duelie payed his rent but haueinge beene in the service of the Comon wealth both in England and Scotland and att Wooster battell is therefore Envyed by severall dissaffected persons within the said Town[shi]pp in regard hee was borne Extra but hath beene an Inhabitant there for the space of twenty seaven yeares and vpwards,
His humble request is that the former order of this Court may bee confirmed and that accordingly hee may haue an habitac[i]on provided for his money and hee shall bee labourious and carefull to bee as litle troublesome or chargeable as possible And to yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps order hee shall submitt & pray &c
