The petition of Richard Wethered of Chettisham, Isle of Ely, 1650

To ye right wor[shi]pp[f]ull ye Justices of Peace & Coram sitting at Elie.
The humble petic[i]on of Richard Wethered
Sheweth
That whereas there was one Georg[e] Vincent a souldier maried to wife one Elizabeth ye daughter of William Hodson of Chetsham by whom she had a childe a fournite beefore ye Nativity of our Lord 1648, & ye mother of ye said Childe dyinge in childbed: the said Vincent putt his childe to my wife to nuzzle: & agreed w[i]th her to pay her ii s. vi d. a weeke so longe as she kept ye same, & did accordingly till a month before our Ladiday & then hee went away wee know not whether: And from that time till ye feast of Michaell last past wee have received no satisfaction for nurzzlinge ye said childe: So that there is due to us for ye same for 30 weekes iii li. xv s.
Now wee humbly entreate this wor[shi]pp[f]ull Bench that they would bee pleased to direct us & grant there order how & of whom wee shall receive ye said monney due to us in Arreares: And wee shall bee humbly thankfull.
Ordered upon this petic[i]on and consent of John Fowler Churchwarden overseer for ye poore of [?Chetsham] [illegible] the overseers of [several illegible words] that the hamlet shall pay to R[ichar]d Weathered the said 3 li. 15 s. w[hi]ch is desired by this Pe[tition]e[r].
