The petition of Richard Warner of Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, 1697

To the right wor[shi]pfull his Maj[es]ties Justices of the peace for the County of Hertford:
The Humble petic[i]on of Richard Warner of Hampsted in the County of Hertford husbandman:
Humbly Sheweth
That yo[u]r Petic[i]oner for more then forty yeares together hath been a soldier in the service of his Maj[es]ties and of the late Kings of England and hath beene in severall Battells both in Ireland and elsewhere: In which he received severall wounds in his Body by which he is soe disabled that he is incapable of doeing his Maj[es]tie, any further service and likewise of Labouring to gett a livelyhood So that your Petic[i]oner is in great want of necessaries for his support & maintenance, And therefore humbly prayes that your Wor[shi]ps would be pleased to grant unto your Petic[i]oner a penc[i]on So that he may thereby be the better enabled to Subsist And yo[u]r petic[i]oner as in Duty bound shall ever pray &c.
Wee whose names are subscribed doe declare that wee doe belieue the Contents of the aboue written Certificate to be true.
