The petition of Richard Tailor of Ashburton, Devon, Easter 1663

To the Right Worr[shi]ppfull his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace now mett togeather in the quarter Sessions for the Countie aforesaid.
The humble petition of Richard tailor of Aishberton Wortedcomber sheweth
That whereas your poore Petit[ioner] hath bin a constant loyall souldier under the command of the Collonells S[i]r Edward Seymour and S[i]r Hugh Pollard Baronetts dureing all the late unhappy warrs wherein he receaved a bullet into his head by w[hi]ch togeather w[i]th distempers caused by watchings and coldnes as he was upon duty there hath appeared a noisome distillation into his eyes whereby he hath for severall yeares last past bin disenabled to earne a maintenance for him selfe and his wife two yeares since stricken w[i]th blindnes.
May it therefore please yo[u]r good worr[shi]pps the p[re]misses considered to give an order that the Treasurers out of the County Stocke may distribute towards the Reliefe of yo[u]r said petit[ioner] such a convenient yearely pension as you in yo[u]r mature iudgem[en]ts shall thincke meet. And yo[u]r said petit[ioner] shall ever pray &c
