The petition of Richard Stubbes of Congleton, Cheshire, 8 July 1662

To the Right w[orshi]p[fu]l ye K[ing]s Ma[jes]ties Justices of Peace now assembled
The humble Petic[i]o[n] of Rich[ard] Stubbes late of Congleto[n] &c
<Sheweth>
That yo[u]r poor Pet[itione]r eu[er] constant to his liege L[or]d ye K[ing] & eu[er] willing to aduenture life, limbes & liberty for his Ma[jes]ty took vp armes vnd[e]r ye com[m]and of Capt[ain] Cristropher [sic.] Congreue in his foot company in ye Regim[en]t of Collon[el] Hen[ry] Warren and in yt fatall battle att Marston moore neer York, besides many other woundes then & there receiued, lost his left arme, to ye loss of his liuelihood, his wiues & 4 child[ren] yett dependant vpon him, who all repaireing to London for redress, yo[u]r Pet[itione]r was sent purposely downe to this now sitting sessions yt ye Justices here might take course for a competent prouisio[n] for yo[u]r Pet[itione]r and his family, borne in this Palatinate, where for such sufferers prouision is to be made
May it please yo[u]r w[orshi]ps then since ye truth of all this can by certificate here to bee showne bee made more truly to appeare, that according to ye K[ing]s Ma[jes]ties gratious act in this case made, yo[u]r Pet[itione]r as hee hath bene a greater sufferer in ye s[ai]d seruice for his ma[jes]tie then ye rest, soe hee and his poore family may receiue a more large annuall proportion of reward and the same now signed vnd[e]r yo[u]r w[orshi]ps handes for w[hi]ch yo[u]r Pet[itione]r
As for eu[er] bound shall for eu[er] pray &c
