The Humble Petic[i]on of Richard Shelly

Humbly Sheweth

that yo[u]r poore Petic[i]on[e]r for many yeares faithfullie served the late kings ma[jes]t[y] of euer blessed memorie in his warrs ag[ai]n[s]t his bloode thirstye enimies, yo[u]r worshipps poore Petic[i]on[e]r receaued many shoots [sic.] & wownds, and many bruises w[i]th longe imprisonm[en]ts: and is vtterlye disabled to labor for his mayntenance whereby both himselfe his wife and children are like to p[er]ishe

In Considerac[i]on of the pr[e]misses may it please yo[u]r good worshipps to graunt yo[u]r poore Petic[i]oner a Penc[i]on whereby hee may bee enabled to live & hee shall dayly pray &c
