The petition of Richard Landon of Hereford (St John the Baptist Parish), Herefordshire, 1682

To the Right wor[shi]ppfull Thomas Clarke Esq[ui]r[e] Major of the Citty of Hereff[ord] & to others the hono[u]r[a]ble, & wor[shi]ppfull Steward, Burgesses, Justices of the peace, & Com[m]on Councell of the said Citty,
The humble petic[i]on of Richard Landon of the parish of S[ain]te John the Baptist within this Citty a poore aged man of the Age of Ninety twoe Years & vpwards,
Most humbly supplicateinge, In regard, And for that your poore aged petic[ione]r haueinge bin heretofore an Imprest souldier out of this Citty to serue his Majesties most Royall fathers seruice (amongst others) sent into the dominions of Ireland to fight against the Rebells then stirreing, beinge in the Regiment of the late hono[u]r[a]ble Collonell Meend formerly Governor of this Citty vpon Actuall service in hott & perillous skirmishes both in Ireland, & this Realme haueinge vtterly lost the vse of his lefte Arme by bullett shott happeninge in the said seruice, wherewith he is most grievousely pained both night, & day, And haueinge but 4 d. weekely out of the said parish towards his relieffe a small Alloweance for a poore aged faithfull maimed souldier, And whereas there being a Fall at the Gileses Hospitall And your petic[ione]r beinge impotent, aged, & maimed vnable to worke, or pay rent for an habitacon,
The pr[e]misses Considered May it please your wor[shi]pps to com[m]iserate your poore impotent aged petic[ione]rs Case, & most favoureably to Admitt him to the said pr[e]sent Fall for his better support, & Relief, And he shall allwaies pray &c.
