The petition of Richard Jarvis of Nantwich, Cheshire, 31 March 1668

To the right Worshippfull the kinges Maiestyes Justices of the peace for the county of Chester
The Humble petic[i]on of Richard Jaruis of W[i]ch Malbanke as followeth.
Submissiuely sheweth.
Whereas your petic[i]oner haueinge bin a souldier in his late maiestyes seruice king Charles the first of blessed memory in his regiment of leiffe guard vnder his royall Standard, vnder the Command of the right Hono[u]rable Mountagne Earle of Lindsey Late Lord high Chamberlayne of England &c and Collonell of his majestyes Leiffeguard in then Captayne Richard Walthall his Company and haueinge bin faythfull in the seruice euer since your petic[i]oner beinge taken prisoner at Nazby fight and so transported beyond sea for eleuen yeares space. Whereby your petic[i]oner being Wounded hath endured very much misery and haueinge nothinge to subsist vpon but his hand labour to mayntayne himselfe and family. Except your Worships out of your prouidentiall care be pleased to Admitt him a penc[i]oner.
The pr[e]misses Considered May itt please your worships to grant to your petic[i]oner a penc[i]on as shall seeme best in your all seeing wiseome and your petic[i]oner shall euer pray
