To the Right wo[rshipfu]ll the Maior Aldermen and Comon Councell now assembled in Burghmote

The humble petic[i]on of Richard Howland of the Citty of Canterbury Cordwayner

Sheweth

That whereas yo[u]r petic[i]oner is a freeman of this Citty and is of the age of seaven and fortie yeeres and hath for the most p[ar]te of that time lived within the said Citty vnlesse it was for some certaine time that your petic[i]oner was in the Com[m]on wealth service in which service your petic[i]oner did receaue some certaine wounds which is a greate pr[e]iudice to his him in his trade And whereas your petic[i]oner doeth vnderstand that the Cryers place within the said Citty is void by the death of the late Cryer his humble desire therefore is that your wo[rshi]pps would be pleased to looke vppon your petic[i]oner and grant vnto him the said Cryers place and your petic[i]oner shall ever pray &c.
