The petition of Richard Henthorne of Pannal, West Riding of Yorkshire, October 1675

To the Right Hon[oura]ble the Justices of the peace at the Sessions at Knar[e]sbrough
The humble petition of Richard Henthorne of Pannell
Humbly sheweth that your petition[e]r was a souldier in the Trained band Troope vnd[e]r the Com[m]and of S[i]r John Goodericke, for the space of fower yeares, and neu[e]r revolted that noble service. And com[m]ing to raise the seidge at Pontefract, receiued severall woundes at Melton=Mowbury, And afterwards was taken prison[e]r at Sheerburn, & continued soe for the space of nine monthes, All which disasters, and old age hath brought yo[u]r petition[e]r into a very poore estate soe that he is not able to subsist, without some yearly maintenance Therefore he humbly beggs of your honours, w[ha]t you thinke fitt & convenient towards his maintenance.
And yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r shall ever pray &c.
