The petition of Richard Hayes of Calne, Wiltshire, Michaelmas 1666

To the wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace of the Countie of Wiltes[hire] assembled at the gen[er]all quarter Sess[i]ons of the Peace to be held at Marlebrough for the s[ai]d County
The humble petic[i]on of Richard Hayes of Calne in the said County.
Humbly sheweth That yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r for & dureinge the late Warrs faythfully served the late kings Ma[jes]tie; as a soldier vnder the com[m]aund of Maior Edward Webb of horse, who was slayne & the same tyme yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] dangerously wounded in the said service, And yo[u]r pet[itione]r hopeth he hath as well deserved his nowe Ma[jes]ties benevolence as well as other inferior soldiers.
Wee whose names are subscribed doe humbly certifie vnto yo[u]r wor[shi]pps That yo[u]r said Pet[itione]r did faythfully serve the s[ai]d late kings Ma[jes]tie in the late vnhappie warrs as A souldier vnder the Com[m]aund of the late Maior Edward Webb of horse in the Regim[en]t of Collonell Thomas Howard, some of vs beeinge Com[m]ission officers vnder the said Maior; And that the Pet[itione]r hath ever synce contynued faythfull & loyall to his Ma[jes]tie that nowe is And wee doe further certifie That the Pet[titione]r was wounded & hurt in that service, he beeinge a very {indi}gent & poo{r} p[er]son whome Wee humbly conceive a fitt obiect to receave the benevolence accordinge to the Act of Parliam[en]t All w[hi]ch wee leave to yo[u]r wor[shi]pps graue consid[er]ac[i]ons
