The petition of Richard Glascock of Chelmsford, Essex, 1647

The humble Petition of Richard Glascock a poore Maymed Soldier
Sheweth That yo[u]r poore peticoner being borne in the Towne of Chelmnesford & therein Inhabited untill he voluntarily tooke upp Armes for the servis of the King & Parliament & for three yeares last past imployed himselfe & served as a Trooper in the Regiment of Colonell Rich & haveing lost one of his leggs in the Seige before Bristoll as by a Certificate under the hand & seale of his generall S[i]r Thomas Fairefax dooth more fully appeare.
Is thereby utterly disabled for the acquiringe of his trade & liveing in that Course of Life wherein hee hath formerly beene bred & brought upp & inforced to crave the aid & assistance of this hon[oura]ble Court for his pr[e]sent releife.
Humbly praies that you would be pleased according to the power given you by the Statute in that case p[ro]vided to assigne unto him such a pension for his future maintenaunce as unto yo[u]r hon[oura]ble wor[shi]pps shall seeme suiteable unto his distressed estate & Condic[i]on.
And according to his bownden Duty he shall pray, &c
