The petition of Richard Gatley of Lymm, Cheshire, Easter 1663

To the honorable & Right wor[shipfu]ll the kings Ma[jes]ties Justic[e]s of peace at this p[rese]nte Sessions Asembled:

The humble petic[i]on of Richard Gatley of Lyme in the Countie of Chester Milner

Shewing that yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] was a sould[i]er in Maior Masiey of Rixton his troupe in S[i]r Rob[er]te Berrons Regim[en]t; and that then and ever since yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] hath beene faithfull vnto his first principles: as may appeare by a certificate herevnto annexed, and that in the said service he lost his horse saddle bridle and other furniture worth Ten pounds and vpwards at a place in the North called Raven: glasse, and was there taken prison[er] and carried to Lancaster, besides received seu[er]all wounds as yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] can make manifestlie appeare to his exceedinge great Loss damage and hinderance.

The pr[e]misses tenderlie considered yo[u]r petic[i]oner most humblie implores this ho[noura]ble Bench to allow and graunt him such satisfacc[i]on and restitution for his Losses so sustained as are and haue beene given and allowed to others in the Like condic[i]on and yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] as in all dutie bound will ever pray &c
