The petition of Richard Feild, Warwickshire, 6 October 1646

To the Ho[noura]ble Com[m]ittee for the safety of the County of Warr[wick] & the Citty of Coventry.
The humble petic[i]on of Richard Feild late Souldier in Capt[ain] Thorntons Foote Company
<Humbly shewing> That yo[u]r pet[itione]r was a Volunteer at the beginning of these pr[e]sent warres, that he came with Col[one]l Colmore at ye first Entring vpon this Citty for ye Parliam[en]t, & was afterwards listed vnder the said Col[one]l, & being (amongst others) comanded to storme ye Castle of Banbury was in ye sayd attempt of storming shot through the legg, and had his leg then broken to peeces.
That it cost yo[u]r pet[itione]r for a horse litter to bring him home xiij s. & for one to attend him xxxv s. over & above the vj li. w[hi]ch he payd to his Chirurgion for his paines (w[hi]ch vj li. yo[u]r pet[itione]r with all thanckfulnes acknowledgeth was repayd to him) out of the Treasury by order of & from this ho[noura]ble Comittee. That yo[u]r pet[itione]r, by Reason of the sayd wound is much disabled to mayntaine himselfe by his owne paynes & Endeavo[u]rs.
He therfore most humbly prayeth (that the pr[e]misses Considered) this ho[noura]ble Com[m]ittee wil be pleased to giue order for the repaym[en]t of ye money disbursed as aforesayd to him. As also such further releefe as to yo[u]r honno[u]rs shall seeme iust. And yo[u]r pet[itione]r will pray &c.
