The petition of Richard Ellsing of Helions Bumpstead, Essex, 1646

To the right ho[nora]ble and right wor[ship]full his Ma[jes]ties Justices w[i]th in the Countie of Essex.
The humble Petic[i]on of Richard Ellsing of Bumsteed Helion togeather w[i]th the Inhabitantes of the said Parish.
Humblie sheweth that the said Richard Ellsing (a weaver by trade) was about three years since impressed in the said Parish for the service of the State, under the com[m]and of Captaine Wallden. And att the seige of York in the said Service had one of his leggs shott of w[i]th a Cannon: whereby he is altogeather disabled to follow his said trade and hath bin ever since very chargeable to the said parish (his allowance being 2 s. 6 d. by the weeke for the most part of the tyme, w[hi]ch the parish (in regards of the smallnes thereof) and the many poore therein, besides the extraordinarie chardges imposed upon them) is very unable to maintaine.
May itt therefore please yo[u]r honors, and wor[shi]pps (the premisses considered) to allowe unto the said Richard Ellsing such a certaine some of monny yearely out of the Tresaurie, or otherwise, towards his maintenance, as in yo[u]r great wisdomes you shall thinke fitt, to be paid quarterly, or att such tymes and places, as you shal be pleased to appoint. And yo[u]r Petic[i]oners (as in Dutie bounds) shall ever praie, etc.
