The petition of Richard Boulton of Lancaster, Lancashire, Easter 1655

To the right worshipfull the Justices of peace & quorum for the County Pallantyne of Lancaster
The humble petition of Richard Boulton a poore prisoner in the Castle of Lancaster
In all humillitie sheweth unto yo[u]r good worshippes That whereas yo[u]r poore petitioner hath beene a true & faithfull souldier as well to ye Parliam[en]t of England the keepers of the lib[er]ties of the same The Comonwealth & the nowe lord Protector his Excellencie (euer since the first warres in ye Nation sturred upp) as may appeare as well under the hand of his Excellencie & other Comanders & Officers of this Comonwealth But nowe soe it is that yo[u]r poore peti[itione]r is (not onely) a maymed souldier but alsoe for debt Cast in ye said Castle where hee is not onely like to sterue but his wife & Children to bee famished at home by reason of his Imprisonm[en]t.
May It please therefore please yo[u]r good worshippes the premises Considered not onely to giue him some maintennants as a maimed souldier but alsoe to Allowe him such weekly allowance out of the Countrie allowances to poore prisoners as yow in yo[u]r Judgm[en]t thinke fitt and yo[u]r poore petit[ione]r shall pray to blesse yow w[i]th all happinesse.
