The petition of Richard and Margarett Highnett of Eddisbury Hundred, Cheshire, Michaelmas 1651

To the Right worshipfull the Justices of Peace of Edsburie hundred.
The humble petition of Richard Highnett aged 82 yeares and Margarett Highnett his daughter in lawe,
Most humblie and lamentablie Shewing vnto your Wors[h]ips that the Constables haue taken my sonne to be a soildier, so that I am deprived of anie helpe to gett me fire or to helpe now in my old age, it is a lamentable thinge to take a man that hath a wiffe and a Child to maintaine, and nothing to maintaine them withall but what he gott with hard labour, and not to allow him never a pen[n]ie to haue in his purse, nor Clothes to putt on his baike, and Helsbie and Maneley freed and neithe[r] fynd a man nor pay anie money;
May it therefore please you the pr[e]misses tenderly considered to grant your warrant for some moneies to be Collected in Alvanley, Helsbie and Manley to hire another man in his place or els to buy him some Clothes and putt some money in his purse for he hath never a pennie, and in so doeing wee shall haue cause to pray for yo[u]r health and happines long to continue;
We whose names are subscribed knowing the pr[e]misses to be true, doe humblie intreat you to grant them their request,
Edmond Burch Clarke Robert Comberbatch
George Whitley sener William Stocken
