The petition of Raph Tilsley of Bolton, Lancashire, 20 January 1681

To his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace & Quor[um] att the Quarter Sessions att Manchester the 20th day of January 1680
The humble Petic[i]on of Raph Tilsley of Bolton
Humbly sheweth
That yo[u]r petic[i]oner had the sume of Thirty shillings a yeare allowed him as a maimed Souldier which being now taken off hath reduced him to Extreame povertie hee was fourescore yeares of age the last new yeares day and thereby vnable to work so that his wife and hee are like to famish w[i]thout weekly allowance by yo[u]r wor[shi]pps Order the Churchwarden and Ou[er]seers of the poore promise him releefe but giue none
Hee therefore humbly craves an order for the sume of Eighteene pence a weeke without which hee canot subsist
And yo[u]r petic[i]oner will pray &c
