The petition of Ralph Porter, City and County of Exeter, 1681

To the Right Wor[shi]pp[fu]ll the Justices of the peace for the County of Deuon:
The humble petition of Ralph Porter of the Citty of Exon:
Sheweth:
Vnto yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps that yo[u]r petition[e]r hath euer beene a loyall suffering subject towards his late Ma[jes]tie King Charles the first of Blessed memory and was a Commission Officer (an Ensigne) in his said Ma[jes]ties seruice vnder the Command of Major Knoles in the Regim[en]t of Colonell Thomas Walker And continued faithfull in his said Ma[jes]ti[e]s seruice, in which said seruice yo[u]r petition[e]r against Taunton Receiued a greate wound by a shote in the Thigh By meanes whereof yo[u]r petition[e]r is vtterly disabled to get a livelyhood for himselfe or poore family but must ineuitably perish vnless yo[u]r wor[shi]pps favour and compassion be shewed towards him for some Reliefe (and who hath euer since continued a p[er]son of Loyall affect[i]ons towards his Ma[jes]tie that now is):
May it therefore graciously please yo[u]r wor[shi]ps to consider the cause & condic[i]on of yo[u]r poore petition[e]r and grant to him that he may bee admitted one of his Ma[jes]ties pention[e]rs as yo[u]r wor[shi]pps shall in yo[u]r Judgment seeme meete. And yo[u]r poore petition[e]r shall be euer bound to pray &c.
