The petition of Phillipp George of Hereford, Herefordshire, 1674

To the Right Wor[shi]ppfull Thomas Symonds Esq[ui]r[e] Major of the Citty of Hereff[ord], & to others the wor[shi]ppfull Justices of peace of the said Citty.
The humble petic[i]on of Phillipp George of ye Liberties of the Citty of Hereff[ord], Cooper, aged 76 yeares a freeman of the same,
Humbly shewinge That whereas yo[u]r poore aged petic[ione]r beinge impotent, lame, maimed, & very feeble, & weake, neare past worke, his sight much faileing him by reason of his greate sufferings, losses, wounds, & maimes he hath receiued for his fidelity in his most gracious Ma[jes]t[y]s Royall fathers seruice both in this Realme, & the Dominions of Ireland haueing bin a Sergeant in Armes, vpon perillous Adentures fallen into a very lowe Condic[i]on vnable to subsist by his Labour in course of Liuelihood as formerly; most humbly Craueth the beneffitt of his Ma[jes]t[y]s most gracious Act for ye settlem[en]t of him in an hospitall for his reliffe, in his winter yeares & healples Condic[i]on in order to a graunte of the next Fall either of Williames or prices hospitall belonging to this Citty,
The pr[e]misses most fauoureably Considered, May it please yor wor[shi]pps to graunte to yo[u]r poore aged amimed petic[ione]r who for his fidelity in not diserneing secretts of this Citty in the tyme of the hono[u]r[a]ble Col[one]l Birch heretofore Gouerner of the same was burnt in his hands & feete; a Graunte of the next Fall of an hospital as afores[ai]d,
