The petition of Philip Humber of Salisbury, Wiltshire, 9 January 1666

To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of peace at this generall quarter Sessions holden for the Peace att Sarum for the County of Wilts[hire] ye 9th day of January 1665.

The humble petic[i]on of Phillip Humber of the City of New Sarum aforesaid Shoemaker.

Humbly Sheweth

That whereas yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps petic[i]oner was a Trooper under ye Comand of Colonell Painton in his Ma[jes]ties Service of ever blessed memory in the late vnhapy warrs as by his Certificate doth appeare and Received many hurts in ye said service & never Received any payee, And whereas yo[u]r Petic[i]oner is a very poore man & hath a wife & 3 small Children & noething to Maineteyne them but his hard labour as a Journyman Shoemaker.

Yo[u]r petic[i]oner therefore most humbly implores yo[u]r good Wor[shi]ps the pr[e]misses considered to graunte and order that yo[u]r greeveous poore petic[i]oner may have some yearely pension allowed him as have been graunted to others, And the same w[hi]ch was graunted to one Michaell of this City who is now dead, iff itt may stand w[i]th yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps Favour, to helpe yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner & his Family from perishing through want

And yo[u]r petic[i]oner shall ever pray &c
