The petition of Nicholas Steere of Bridford, Devon, 1686

To ye wor[shi]p[fu]ll John Beare Esq[ui]re and other his Majestyes Justices of the peace at the Castle of Exon in full sessions Assembled.
The humble petic[i]on of Nicholas Steere of Bridford in the County of Devon.
Humbly Sheweth That yo[u]r poor peticion[e]r hath beene a souldier in the service of his late Majesty King Charles the first of blessed memory as a Trooper in the Troope of one Captaine Walker the captaine thereof, and was in that service very much wounded & bruised by meanes whereof yo[u]r petitioner is now become very decrepid & unable to maintaine himselfe & family, as he wisheth hee were able to doe.
Yo[u]r poore petition[e]r therefore prayes yo[u]r wor[shi]ps to commiserate the condic[i]on of yo[u]r poore peticion[e]r and to give him such yeerely pension as to his necessity and yo[u]r wor[shi]ps wonted clemency in cases of the like nature shall seeme most consonant.
And yo[u]r pet[itione]r shall Ever pray &c
