The petition of Nicholas Lawrence of Maiden Bradley, Wiltshire, 9 July 1656

To the Wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of Peace for the Sessions held at Warmester [sic.] in the County of Wilts[hire]
The humble Petic[i]on of Nicholas Lawrence of Maiden Bradley cordweyner
Sheweth
That yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r actually served the Parliam[en]t as a Trooper in the County aforesaid vnder the Comaund of Liev[tenan]t Gen[era]ll Ludlowe and Major William Ludlowe from May the 5th 1643 till May 11th 1647 for w[hi]ch service there is due to him from the Com[m]on Wealth in arreares the same of seaventy nine pounds fower shillings and eleaven Pence, (as by the annexed may more fully appeare) during w[hi]ch service yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r was five tymes taken Prison[e]r by the enemy, received eight severall wounds in his head and Body, whereby he is quite disabled from following his aforesaid trade & calling to the vtter vndoeing of himself wife and sixe poore Children:
May it therefore please this Wor[shipfu]ll Bench the pr[e]misses considered to take into yo[u]r considerac[i]on ye sad and deplorable condic[i]on of yo[u]r poore Pet[itione]r his wife and children and the occac[i]on of their sad sufferings and to order an annuall Penc[i]on to be paid for their future releife and as for maimed soldiers is provided, or otherwise as you shall thinke most meete, and hee and his as bound shall ever pray &c
