The petition of Nicholas Kift of Lydiard Millicent, Wiltshire, 6 September 1666

To the Right hon[ou]red the Justices of the peace of this County of Wiltes[hire] at the Generall quarter Sessions att Marlborough in the said County
The humble petic[i]on of Nicholas Kift of the p[ar]ish of Liddiard Millicent in the County afores[ai]d.
Humbly sheweth
That whereas your poore petitioner served his Late Ma[jes]tie Charles the first of most famous Memory vnder the Com[m]and of Captaine William Chamberline in the Regim[en]t of Colonell Thomas Howerd we whose hands are here subscribed inhabitants of Liddiard Millicent afores[ai]d doe certifie yt y[ou]r poore petitioner behaved himselfe in ye s[ai]d service very honest & loyall & never att all deserted his Ma[jes]ties cause but continued in the same to the last & received many wounds in the same service by the meanes whereof your poore petitioner is not able to maintaine himselfe & family therefore humbly intreateing y[ou]r hon[ou]rs favourable Assistance & aide towards some Reliefe of y[ou]r poore petitioner & his family And he was alsoe listed att the said Marlborough att the generall sessions three yeeres since & there Received six shillings to beere his charges, in tender considerac[i]on whereof may it please your hon[ou]rs to admit y[ou]r said petitioner, in all duety he wil be bound dayly to pray for hon[ou]rs health & happines long to continue &c dated this sixt of Septemb[er] An[n]o Dom[in]i 1666
I Certifie that Nicholas Kift was a souldior in his late Ma[jes]ties service in the troope of Capt[ain] W[illia]m Chamberlaine in the Regiment of Col[one]l Thomas Howard
