The petition of Maud Cape of Wellington, Somerset, c. 1654 to 1655

To the R[igh]t Wor[shipfu]lls the Justices of the peace now Assembled in Sessions at Taunton:
The humble petic[i]on of Maud Cape of Wellington in the County of Som[er]sett widd[ow].
Sheweth
Whereas yo[u]r petec[ione]r haueinge lost her husband in the seruice of this free Nation in ye Garsion of Wellington afores[ai]d vnder the Com[m]and of the R[igh]t Wor[shipfu]ll Leuit[enant] Col[one]l Rich[ard] Bouett whereby shee is left destituted: haueinge noe one to supply her & two of her small Children w[i]th Naturall subsistence & beinge soe left yo[u]r poore petic[ione]r was like to pirish for want
May it therefore please yo[u]r wor[shi]pps Charitably to looke vpon yo[u]r poore petic[ione]rs & her s[ai]d children, & to support them w[i]th such beneuolence as in yo[u]r consideracons shall most thinke fitt
