The petition of Matthew Drake of Hartshead, West Riding of Yorkshire, January 1670

To the Right Wor[shi]ppfull his Ma[jes]ties Justices of Peace at their Generall Quarter Sessions to be holden at Wakefeilde
The humble petic[i]on of Mathew Drake of Hartishead
Humbly shewinge to your good Wor[shi]pps that your poore petic[i]oner Served his late Ma[jes]tie vnder the Comand of S[i]r Francis Armytage Barronett in w[hi]ch service your poore petic[i]oner was very sore wounded, lost twoe of his fingers & was stript & ex exposed to very much hardshipp by reason whereof your poore petic[i]oner is very much disinabled to labour for his liveinge haveinge a wife & four poore Children
It would therefore please your good Wor[shi]pps to take p[re]misses into considerac[i]on and grant an order that your poore petic[i]oner maye be entred a pentioner in the stead of one Anthony Hepworth of Mirfield or Robert Ledgard of [?Durkar] lately deceased or any other whome your Wor[shi]pps shall thinke fitt. And your peticoner as in all duty bound shall dayly praye &c
